Charlie Sheen found himself in the hot seat when he got roasted. Sheen was at a peak in his career on the well known television show “Two and a Half Men,” but experienced a swift fall from glory last year. His antidotes, banter and at times incredibly confusing outlook on life landed him in the spot of being the latest candidate for a Comedy Central roast.
Sheen's Roast
While Ashton Kutcher brought in droves to watch the new and improved “Men”, Sheen had his own fair share of viewers during his roast Monday night (Sept. 19). Sheen brought in 6.4 million viewers for his roast-according to an article on LA Times that’s a record for the roast program. According to a post on USA Today Sheen’s roast brought in 2 million more viewers than the recent roasts of Donald Trump and David Hasselhoff.
Many celebrities, comedians and other participants got up and slammed Sheen with every wit and joke they could think of. Some were lighthearted and easy slaps, and others were below the belt blows to his ego. According to an article on Popwatch, Comedian Amy Schumer told Sheen “You’re just like Bruce Willis — you were big in the ’80s and now your old slot’s being filled with Ashton Kutcher,” in regards to Kutcher taking his spot on “Two and a Half Men.”
Sheen dominated Twitter that night, bringing in upwards of 40,000 tweets during his roast. 13.4% of the tweets that came in where negative towards Sheen; the rest of the tweets highlighted and glorified Mr. Sheen.
Questionable Humor
Not all of Sheen’s roast humored and delighted viewers-in fact one of the jokes made by Schumer offended many of those tuning in. Jacka** Star Steve-O was invited to be on the panel to roast Sheen, but Schumer delivered a joke directed towards Steve-O in regards to the death of fellow Jacka** show member Ryan Dunn: “I truly am, no jokes, sorry for your friend Ryan Dunn. I know you must have been thinking it could have been me, and I know we were all thinking, why wasn’t it.”
Schumer has received a fair share of heat from those who felt like the joke was far inappropriate. Others felt like while it may have been acceptable, maybe it should have been left out. Others felt completely different, arguing Schuman was within her right to deliver a joke of that nature at the roast. All in all, Sheen’s roast came out very successful in the end.
