There are a variety of diamonds cuts available for engagement rings, each bringing their own qualities to the table.

Nothing says “Will you marry me” like a glittering rock, but buying engagement rings are not as simple as picking one that looks nice. There are a number of different diamond cuts that offer each individual ring a different style and compliment a different taste.

Round Diamonds- This is the most popular shape, offering a simple and classic approach. It’s a traditional choice, doing best set in white gold engagement rings. Round diamonds are in a class of their own. Any shape other then round is called a “fancy” shape.

Princess Cut Diamonds-This is the most popular of the fancy shapes, often a square cut with rounded or softened corners. The corners help maximize the brilliance of the diamond, making it sparkle more than a regular square cut. The great thing about this diamond is that it can be a smaller diamond and still offer beautiful brilliance.

Oval Diamonds- This diamond is a symmetrical design, perfect for a petite hand or small and slender fingers. The elegant shape compliments a small hand well. An oval diamond is also perfect for a woman with short or stubby fingers, because it gives the illusion of making the finger look longer.

Heart Shaped Diamond-A heart shaped diamond is hard to cut, so if you find a well cut one it’s a treasured gem. A heart shaped diamond is similar to a pear shaped diamond, but pear is better for necklaces and earrings whereas heart does best on a ring. The heart shape gives it a romantic feel.

Cushion Cut Diamond-This cut, nicknamed a “pillow cut”, has a rectangle shape with rounded corners. This diamond offers tremendous depth, making it a breath taking diamond to look at. This is another example of a diamond that can be a smaller cut and still offer that amazing glitz.

Emerald Cut Diamond- This rectangular diamond has sharp cut corners. The cut causes superior clarity and vivid color, which makes it shine and glow from its setting. Try a silver or white gold band to compliment the crystal clear color.

Marquise Diamond-This diamond features a long shape with pointed ended, and looks magnificent paired with smaller diamonds on a wedding band. This ring tends to be a bit more expensive due to the extra diamond clusters. The marquise diamond is a great build off diamond. Buy the one diamond on a band and add smaller diamonds to signify anniversaries.

Each diamond suits each woman differently. Choosing the perfect engagement ring for the love of your life is the crucial first step in the journey to man and wife.
